2009 ER Mission Report from Lisa Canoy

Jun and Lisa Canoy are missionaries and are part of the leadership team for the ER Pilipino missions. They are Pure Works Project Partners, and they are also Pure Works Group members. Here are the highlights of the 2009 ER Philippines Mission from Lisa sent in an email from her to me and others today.

From our leaders meeting these are the conservative stats that we could all confirm and the results/impact made in each ministry venue. (Pastor Ben some of the repeat for you)

Discipleship Training Weekend ( 3 days inCagayan de Oro) - Our Purpose: To equip young emerging leaders in the discovery of who they are in God, how has he equipped them for the work of the ministry and to see release in their spiritual giftings into God's mission to the world.

Evaluation: Approximately 350 young people ages 12-20's attended from surrounding cities of Valencia, Illigan,Ginaoog and other areas. We observed a real hunger for God and many responding to a desire to be involved in full time ministry. The delegates recieved teaching from Pastor Tom Johnson, Pastor Mike Perkinson, Pastor Ben Hirsch, Pastor Ron Rezendez and Pastor Mark Knister. They participated in a downtown prayer walk and a feeding/evangelistic outreach to approx 500 people. This ministry opportunity was the highlight of the two week trip for many of the US participants. It was well organized and well recieved.

Future 1 week discipleship training sessions will be evaluated for the future Basketball Outreach Our Purpose: To make Jesus Christ known in the context of a quality basketball game/friendship game enviornment.

Evaluation: 8 games were played in 6 cities. We had a surprise response from Manila-Asia TV coverage and solid contacts/doors opened for future games/events. Approximately 20,000 people total attended during the 8 games. The gospel was preseneted through dance/drama and preaching of the word during half time rest periods. Difficulty to evaluate the exact impact on salvations/church growth at the time of the outreach as a stadium game atmosphere and language barriers for direct one on one dialogue is a challenge. Jun will continue to be in contact with the Pastors in the areas where the games were held for f/u response over the next several months.

Food and Clothing Outreach - (Barangay Opal and Kapatagan) Our Purpose: To partner with indiginous churches w/ church planting efforts through the medium of tangilble, material items and sharing of the gospel.

Evaluation: The Opal outreach incorporated the delegates from the Discipleship Training Session and was a good tangible example of how they can practicially reach out to their local communities. There were approx 500 in attendance which included many mothers and their children. The all recieved food, a clothing item, a few practical medical items and each family was prayed for by the discipleship delegates. The Kapatagan outreach we partnered w/ 12 local pastors from different denomination and their congregations reaching approx 1000 attendees. Clothing was handed out in very creative and fun fashions as well as practical household items. Very well recieved. Great open door for further ministry in this mountain community of 15,000.

Leadership Training (2 Days in Davao) Our Purpose: To train local pastors and leaders in the Davao area, equipping them w/ tools and focus for serving Jesus in their local church context.

Evaluation: Pastor Ron, Mike,Tom and Mark each shared over the 2 days. Approximately 200 pastors in attendance from Davao proper and surrounding area. Not as well attended as previous leadership seminars in past years. Definate need for greater prayer for walls to be broken among the different denominations and unity and working together among the churches in this city. Had some difficulty in follow through on the part of the local contacts.

Medical Clinics (5 medical clinics in total) Our Purpose: To reach people with the gospel and point them to the Great Physician by addressing and servicing practical health needs, specifically among impoverished areas and to women, children and elderly.

Evaluation: Approximately 1300 patient (pt) were served. Of those registration forms that were turned in: 1044 Medical Pts were seen; 236 Dental Pts were seen/serviced (some registration forms were double due to large family sizes)

Break Down By Cities/Ages and Diseases: Cagayan de Oro 183 Medical Pts Day 1 129 Dental Pts Age Groups: (0-5)= 97; (5-12) 49; (13-20)= 39; (21-40)=50; (41-60)= 65; (65+)= 8 Cagayn de Oro 243 Medical Pts Day 2 17 Dental Pts Age Groups (0-5)= 107; (5-12)=29; (13-20)=3; (21-40)=53; (40-60)=47 (65+)=18 The two days in CDO there were: 179 asked for prayer for Salvation 55 Rededicated their lives to Christ Davao Foursquare 242 Medical Pts Day 3 60 Dental Pts Age Groups:(0-5)- 95; (5-12)=52; (13-20)=21; (21-40)=79; (40-60)=40 (65+)=15 Panabo 136 Medical Pts 29 Dental Pts Age Groups : (0-5)=57; (6-12)= 20; (13-20)=10; (21-40)=28; (40-60)=38 (65+)=12 Banawan 243 Medical Pts No Dental Age Groups: (0-5)=86; (6-12)=43; (13-20)=18; (20-40)=56; (40-60)=29 (65+)=11 In Davao, Panabo and Banawan Combined: 181 Salvations Reported 88 Rededicated Their Lives to Christ We had several challenges with many of the doctors and dentists this year-several lack committment and in one clinic the doctors just got up and left.

Unwarranted concern by some of the city doctors regarding regarding exposure to Swine Flu while being in contact with the US team. In future outreach alternative methods of recruiting and placement of the clinics will be under consideration.

Campus Minstry (Illigan, Valencia, Panabo, Davao) Our Purpose: To share the gospel among High School and College Campuses utilizing the Arts and the Word. To pray for needs of the students and increase awareness of need/resources available for indiginous campus ministries.

Evaluation:In total 12 schools were visited. In some of the schools there was opporutunity for one on one prayer and sharing. Different approaches to sharing was a challenge at times. Several campus allowed for drama/dance/song/preaching of the word, while others the minstry team had to partner with existing local campus ministry leaders and do a prayer walk and speak w/ students briefly one on one inbetween classes. The later was more of a challenge. In the schools that allowed for full evangelistic presentation approx 300 up to 500+ students were in attendance. In Christ, Lisa

PROJECT # 2012-3

Zambia Medical Brigades

To be completed October 2012

There are two basic elements to this Pure Works project: to treat orphans, widows and other vulnerable with medicine in hopes to better their lives, sustain them for a longer life, in some cases, save their lives; and, to further educate local medical personel.

Other longer term benefits are associated, explored and implemented such as research and technology leap-frogging into today's technology.

A dozen doctors will be divided into four groups. Respectively, each group of three will travel to one of the four major cities in Zambia: Kitwe; Livingstone; Lusaka; and Ndola. Each group will be comprised of a pediatrician, a gynacologist, and a general medical practitioner.

Each doctor will teach curriculum in eight morning sessions over a period of two weeks. Additionally, each doctor will participate in afternoon hands-on treatment of patients. Evenings will be left for statistic compilation, and journaling.

A container of medicine from Pure Works donors containing more than $2.5M wholesale medicine will be shipped to Zambia from Brunswick, Georgia in November. The  This container of medicine will be supplemented as is needed as deficiencies are identified.

PROJECT # 2012-2

"Only1" Concerts & Drama Festivals

Completed April 26, 27, and 28, 2012

With collaborative partner, Bishop Ef Tendero of Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, this project has one fundamental goal; valid church growth through evangelism and accountable discipleship. It is accomplished through the commitment of the pastor and each participating member of the church to strategically bring one person each to a high yield evangelism event. This means Only 1 unsaved person per member. It is important to define the project in greater length. The project includes more than six hours of concerts and drama in three days and also including three medical brigades providing more than $15,900 worth of wholesale medicine donated for medical and dental brigades, and pastor visitations. More...

"Who Am I?" Praise & Worship Seminar and "Only1" Concert & Drama Festival

Completed April 21, 2012

Pastors Rick Trimble of Living Rock and Dan Selman of Hosanna! Celebration Center unite! First, we have a praise and worship seminar empowering the ministers of praise and worship in their ministry. Following the seminar, the project completion in a concert has one fundamental goal; valid church growth through evangelism and accountable discipleship. It is accomplished through the commitment of a pastor (and others pastors joining in), along with each participating member of the church to strategically bring one person to a high yield evangelism event.  Strategically is defined as a person that has never confessed Jesus as Lord, is personally known by the participating member, and that upon salvation would likely attend the same church as the member who brought them.  More...

Scheduled...October 2011

This project has been scheduled for October 2011. The project is being coordinated in conjunction with four Zambia Pastor's Associations and The Republic of Zambia. It's an extensive logistical process and the red-tape is our culprit.

Nevertheless, please find summarily, and with bullets below, our coming project.

We're looking for four teams of about twelve including a senior pastor or missions director to lead each of the four teams. Each team will be assigned one of the four major cities in Zambia for a total mission trip of two weeks from the time leaving the US to return. The lodging will be adequate, but not fancy, and Zambia is known for having power outages and water pressure deficiencies.

All food, lodging, air-fare and in-country travel would be provided in the mission fare, which is yet to be determined. This is primarily subject to air-fare pricing, however, an approximate all-inclusive price is $3,800 for each team member. This would include a day and a half at a reserve park.

Each team would be involved in daily prayer and counseling for those coming and waiting to see the doctors. This will be healing and evangelical oriented ministry and each team-member should be able to share their own testimony. These folks we engage are historically and primarily women and children who are malnourished, sick, and/or have a child in that condition. Week-ends will be spent in participating mission church's and the team-members will be distributed by two's to six church's in each city where they will be encouraged to share their testimony and perhaps a short message depending upon their desire and ability to do so and to be determined largely by their team leader. A water baptism for those saved will be included on either the Saturday or Sunday, and discipleship and will be emphasized most especially at the water-baptism event, but throughout the entire mission. One of the week-days will include a pastor's seminar for the team-leader pastor. There may also be one larger all-church, all-inclusive outreach for fellowship and non-believers in each city, and an opportunity to participate in fellowship and outreach with government officials.

Therefore, we need volunteers and team-leaders.
Bullet points are as follows:
  • Mission Outreach Highlights
  • Mission dates? still to be confirmed for July 2011
  • Two weeks (maybe near comparable to a inexpensive US lodging)
  • $3,800 +/-
  • Testimony
  • Prayer
  • Counseling
  • Healing
  • Water Baptism
  • Holy Spirit Baptism
  • Journal
